Why did you join Chi Phi? I joined in the Anti-Establishment Era of the 1970's, when fraternities were looked down upon as establishment, so there were 7 or 8 of us living in the House, and I could have a triple room to myself. Yes, really! People in the dorms were saying, "You're thinking of living in a F-R-A-T-E-R-I-TY????? You're nuts! Nobody lives in a fraternity, except maybe ROTC guys!" I was one of the 2 or 3 total rushees the Fall OF 71, and our Rush class was 3, after we mugged a few guys on Washtenaw, and when they woke up, they found out they were now CHI Phi's.

Why did you join Chi Phi? Luckily for me I roomed freshman year in Alice Lloyd with Peter Clarke MacMillan. After flailing-about my freshman year and not doing a good job figuring out Ann Arbor or the school, Pete suggested I come by for rush sophomore year. I somehow got a bid despite my acid wash jeans.

Why did you join Chi Phi? Initially, I rushed because my roommate was and advised me that I could get free food on a Sunday night. I was in. I visited several houses but immediately felt a connection with the brothers at Chi Phi.

Why did you join Chi Phi? Honestly I just sort of ended up at the house during my first week at U of M, and then one day was a pledge. Not too sure how it happened.

Why did you join Chi Phi? I met Rock, who became my big brother, in a graduate level class when we were both sophomores. I liked him and rushed Chi Phi because if him. I was not intent on joining a fraternity but I liked the guys and the house and was offered a bid.
